Getting Started in BandLab Studio - using Band Lab controlsQuick StartOpen the lesson project in BandLab Studio.Make sure the piano track is selected.Press Play to hear the project.Use the on-screen keyboard, your computer keyboard, or a MIDI controller to play notes.Listen to how your notes sound with the beat and backing track.Keep the project open while you complete the lesson.Save your work as you go.Full WalkthroughSong SettingsAt the top of the Studio, you can see the main settings for the project.BPM shows the tempo, or speed, of the song. This project is set to 80 BPM.4/4 shows the time signature.C maj shows that the project is in the key of C major.These settings are already prepared for the lesson, so you do not need to change them.Use the Main ControlsClick Play to start the song.Click Stop to stop playback.Use the Back to Start button to return to the beginning.Use the red Record button when the lesson asks you to record.The Loop button repeats the selected section of the song.Watch the playhead move across the screen to see where you are in the song.Follow the TimelineThe numbers across the top of the project show the bars of the song.The playhead moves from left to right as the song plays.Click a place on the timeline to move the playhead to a different part of the song.You will use the bar numbers throughout the lesson to know where to start, practice, and record.Play the PianoSelect the piano track before playing notes.The keyboard at the bottom of the Studio shows the notes you can play.The keyboard is set to C Major for this lesson.Click the on-screen keys to play notes.You can also use the letters shown on the keys to play with your computer keyboard.If you have a MIDI keyboard connected, you can use it to play the same instrument.Try different notes and listen to how the pitch moves higher and lower.Use the TracksEach horizontal row in the project is a different track.The piano track is where you will play and record your notes.The beat track gives you a rhythm to play with.The backing track or sample gives you the music you will play over.Click a track to select it before changing or working with it.Mute and Solo TracksM means Mute. Use it to temporarily turn a track off.S means Solo. Use it to hear that track by itself.Turn tracks on and off to hear how the different parts of the song work together.Make sure the tracks you need are turned back on before continuing.Adjust the SoundEach track has its own volume control.Use the volume control if one part is too loud or too quiet.For this lesson, the project levels are already set up, so you should only make changes if needed.Before You ContinueMake sure you can press Play and hear the project.Make sure you can play notes on the piano track.Make sure you can hear the beat and backing track.Make sure you understand where the bar numbers and playhead are located.Keep this BandLab project open and continue to the next part of the lesson.Press Esc to exit editor.
