Music learning built around making music.

A Music Kit is a short music project. Students play, make something, and learn how the music works. Each Kit has one clear musical goal and ends with music the student made and can keep.

How it works

The lesson is on itsalloud. The student plays and records in a ready-made music project in BandLab. In BandLab, that project is called the Assignment.

What students need

A device that can run the lesson, internet access, headphones or speakers, and the playing tool listed for the Music Kit. That might be keys, pads, a computer keyboard, touch controls, or another MIDI instrument.

What students learn

The foundations of music: notes and pitch, beat and rhythm, tempo and BPM, melody, harmony, instruments, arrangement, composition, recording, and how musical ideas fit together.

Sample pack included

Every Music Kit includes musical samples for the project. Free Music Kits include the samples used in the Assignment. Paid Music Kits include a full sample pack with enough material for a complete song, including drums and at least one instrument.

instructor involvement

A real instructor stays part of the learning.

Every submitted Music Kit Assignment includes Instructor Feedback. An instructor reviews what the student made and sends a short note within 48 hours with feedback, ideas, and a next step to encourage more playing. Optional live Instructor Sessions are available when a student wants more help.

parent questions

What families should know before starting.

Does my child need previous music experience?

No. Music Kits introduce musical ideas through hands-on playing. Students do not need to read music or have formal instrument training first.

What age are Music Kits for?

Music Kits are designed primarily for ages 8–18. They are beginner-friendly and can also work for older learners who are new to MIDI, digital music, or foundational music skills.

Will my child be interacting with strangers online?

BandLab for Education is separate from the public BandLab community. Students join the itsalloud Classroom through a private invite and work inside the education environment.

Does my child need a BandLab for Education account?

For Music Kits that use the BandLab Classroom workflow, yes. The student account is used to open Assignments, save work, and submit finished projects.

What equipment does my child need?

Each Music Kit lists what it needs before the student starts. Most use a device with internet access, headphones or speakers, and a playing tool such as keys, pads, a computer keyboard, or touch controls.

What happens after my child submits a project?

An instructor reviews what the student made and sends a short Instructor Feedback note within 48 hours with feedback, ideas, and something new to try.
